I agree, and as I've already said, the IPL MUST be in it's own window so that the integrity of test cricket isn't compromised.

BUT, the ICC won't push the BCCI into changing anything, because the ICC are shit-scared of them.

The ICC are merely puppets for the BCCI, and to a lesser extent, the other two "rulers" - the ECB and Cricket Australia.

Of course it's all about the money.

Can anyone on here honestly say they would turn down the chance to earn substantially more money to do a similar job? Why are cricketers any different?

I love test cricket but unfortunately it's not massively popular outside of England and Australia. If T20 events are subsidising the longer form of the game then that needs to be recognised and accounted for.

If Test cricket takes on T20 there will eventually only be one winner.

There seems to be a group of scantily clad babes dancing on a stage all through the games in the IPL.

What is that for?

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
The IPL is here to stay and should be embraced. It's ridiculous that players are being expected to sacrifice large amounts of money to play test cricket for their country.

It's ok for the English or Australian players who are paid well by their respective boards and can afford to cut short their IPL contracts. However to expect players from smaller test nations to do likewise is unreasonable and there will only be one winner in the end. This is evident from the player vs country battles in the Windies.

It's also detrimental to the English limited overs game as the lack of a window is potentially prohibitive for players who wish to compete in the IPL.

In short, the IPL needs its own dedicated window with Test cricket scheduled around it accordingly.

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
See that's the problem that the IPL has caused Sven.

And that's also the reason why it should be fucked off out of the calendar.

If it's not just lip service being paid, and the ICC etc want test cricket to remain the pinnacle, then they have to figure out a way to get the scheduling right, so that it doesn't affect test series.

It can't be right that the last 3 tours to the UK that NZ have been on, we've had most of our best, most senior players unavailable for any warmup games prior to the test series, because of the IPL.

The same applies to WI and SL.

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
I thought Anderson was going to retire from ODI's after the World Cup. Some may have thought he retired before it.
Either way they will manage the bowlers and no one will have a Test workload.
Personally I think Strauss should push for the early Tests to start at the beginning of June and try and get some Englishmen into the IPL. Even better the IPL could shift forwards by a couple of weeks but then the West Indies would be affected even more in their home Tests.

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
Obviously, they did it so they can have a break between the two test series, but Broad and Anderson will play in most of the ODI's though, won't they?

So, it seems a little bit counter-intuitive to me.

As I mentioned earlier, NZC isn't really in a position to dictate terms like that, given how little we can afford to pay our players - suffice to say that the lowest paid Australian contracted player probably gets more than twice what the highest paid NZ player does.

If we accept that the IPL is here to stay, and I really hope it dies, then it MUST be in it's own window.

Obviously, the axis of evil don't care, because they hold the purse strings, but for countries like us, Sri Lanka and the Windies, we only ever get to play in England early in the summer, and so are always affected by the IPL.

If test match cricket is still the pinnacle, then the axis of evil owe it to the rest of the cricketing world to make sure it is given the appropriate protection.

Sven

Ian Chappell said the same about coaches. He thought their job was to make sure all the equipment was on hand for training sessions.

It always perplexed me that you've have a coach, but let someone else pick the team.

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
I think that's more about coming from Tests in the West Indies to two Tests here and preferring to have a gap in June where the likes of Anderson and Broad can have a break before 5 Ashes Tests in less than 2 months.
The scheduling needs to improve but Boards need to be strong enough to tell players if they don't come home from the IPL early (like Mitchell Johnson has done prior to the Windies Tests) they won't be picked at all.

Warne just had a view that coaches were overrated and that captains are more important. Dickhead he may be but he is still a genius and the greatest bowler you ever saw.

Re: 1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's
Didn't realise that NZC asked the ECB to swap the ODIs and Tests around so that our IPL players would have some time to get used to conditions before the test series, but they refused.

They didn't want to lose.....sorry....play seven tests in a row.

I would have thought that it would be better for England to play two tests against us right before the Ashes rather than the tests now and then run the risk of getting any confidence gained, smashed out of them by the World Cup finalists in a five match ODI series.

Cricket is a business
The Uk business of Cricket is test based
Most of the world has moved onto T20

In my opinion we have to do well at any form of the game and make it successful. Our county system is so out dated for us to progress well its embarrassing.

Cricket was always a game where you adapted to things on the ground. Well the good players did.
You do get the feeling now that players come off at lunch and need some computer analyst to tell them that 37% of their balls were too short when they have had about 100 runs disappear over square leg in an hour.

If I recall in the olden days (ie the 70's) touring teams had a team manager who was an admin bloke who got them on the team bus and paid the hotel bill.
